 A sole goal from Bimal Gharti Magar helps Nepal defeat Sri Lanka in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup in Bangladesh on Wednesday.Gharti Magar’s goal in the second minute of the match proved to be the difference between the two sides at Dhaka. Magar converted with a close range shot after receiving the cross from left back Rabin Shrestha. It is Magar’s third goal for the senior side.Nepal also avenged their 1-0 loss against Sri Lanka in the recently concluded Saff Championship in India. Nepal had lost their opening match of the competition by the same goal margin in Trivandrum, Kerala.With first victory in the competition, Nepal now has four points from two matches. The Nepali side had held Malaysian side Felda to a goalless draw on Tuesday.The match between Felda and Bangladesh today will decide Nepal’s progress to the semi-final.The victory was also Nepal’s first win for 28 months in international matches. Nepal had not won any matches since defeating India 2-1 in Saff Championship in Kathmandu. -
