Watching the new Suntali, Bhaskar Dhungana’s feature film debut, you’re keenly aware of having stepped into a bizarre new world several notches removed from the one we inhabit—a heightened reality that implores us to suspend disbelief and surrender to its many delightful idiosyncrasies. “It’s practically an elaborate joke!” a friend exclaimed towards the end, entirely complimentarily of course, and that’s certainly one way to describe the film, given the archly comic—often out-and-out farcical—tone and distinct stagey-ness about the proceedings brought about by highly-stylised visuals, music and exaggerated performances on the part of a wonderfully on-form cast. An eight-year-old boy, Chiranjivi Mahaseth was kidnapped from Bhatauliya VDC-8 in the district last night. The child is the son of Rabindra Mahaseth of the place. The family sources have blamed Anis Kumar Sah, son of Laxmi Sah of Bhatauliya-3 of the district in this connection. The family sources reportedly said that Anis helped his friend Rohan for the abduction of the child. According to the family sources, Anis today confessed that he helped his friend to lift the child. Diplomatic troubles mounted for India over the case of a Saudi diplomat accused of torturing and raping two Nepalese women at his home in Gurgaon over three months. On Wednesday, the Saudi Ambassador Dr. Saud Mohammed Alsati met Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) officials dealing with West Asia and protested the Gurgaon police’s raid on the diplomat’s home, saying it was “against all diplomatic conventions.”
A press statement released by the Saudi embassy said the allegations against the diplomat and his family were “false” and “have not been proven.” According to the statement of the two Nepalese women, aged 50 and 30, they had been locked up in the diplomat’s apartment at a posh residential complex in Gurgaon, and raped by the diplomat and several other Saudi Arabian men, and prevented from leaving the house by the diplomat’s wife and daughter at knife-point.
They were rescued on Tuesday by the police on a tip-off from an NGO that works on trafficking cases called, Maiti Nepal India, after a specific request from the Nepal embassy. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Nepal’s ambassador Deep Upadhyaya said they had been in touch with the MEA and the Gurgaon police and were “satisfied with the cooperation from the police.”
However, after the protest by the Saudi Ambassador, and the release of a mobile recording of the police’s entry into the diplomat’s house, the government is on the backfoot over the diplomat’s immunity. In the video, police are seen barging into the residence, pushing aside family members including a young girl who were physically resisting their entry. According to Articles 29-31of the Vienna convention (UN 1961), that governs the treatment of diplomatic officials, any diplomat is “inviolable” and the state is bound to prevent any attack on him, his family and even his private residence, that “enjoys the same protection” as an embassy. Gurgaon Commissioner of Police Navdeep Virk indicated that they had been unaware of the diplomat’s status, telling reporters, "We have since been able to establish the identity (of the diplomat who has been accused of rape) and we have also been able to establish that the residents of that flat enjoy diplomatic immunity," he said.
The MEA declined any comment on the issue, and the spokesperson only said they were “waiting for the detailed police report.” That report has now been sent by the Gurgaon police to to Director General of Police (Haryana), the Ministry of External Affairs and the Embassies of Nepal and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia seeking directions on how to proceed in the case. The April-May earthquakes and ongoing fuel crisis in the country resulting from blockade at border checkpoints has negatively affected the aviation sector, according to Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
Passenger occupancy in domestic flights in the first ten months of the current year dropped by 4.15 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal shared this information at a programme organised to mark its 17th anniversary in Kathmandu on Thursday.
On the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya called on airlines operators and aviation sector employees to be serious about improving their services. He also stresed the need for upgrading services at all domestic airports across the country.
Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Sanjiv Gautam, and Airlines Operators’ Association first Vice Chair Pabitra Kumar Karki said serving the passengers was their first priority even during difficult times.
Nepal has recently signed bilateral aviation agreements with New Zealand and Vietnam for operating flights.
With this, the number of countries that Nepal has bilateral aviation agreement with has reached 38.
Presently, 26 airlines, including two domestic, are operating international flights to 23 destinations of 13 countries from the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Police arrested singer Rekha Shah and her husband on the complaint for issuing threats. Kathmandu police arrested the two after Subas Raj Kafle complained with police, accusing the singer of Simsime Panima fame and her husband of issuing threats to him. The two had given loan to Sandip Raj Kafle, son of Subas, for gambling in the casino, according to police. They had approached Subas seeking loan repayment after Sandip went out of contact, unable to pay back the loan.

It is believed that those who have the blessing of Lord Hanuman are protected from the wrath of Shani. Therefore many people make it a point to worship Hanuman at home or in temples. Black is the preferred color on Thursday. Shani, one of the Navagrahas, is worshipped in numerous temples and there are also temples exclusively dedicated to Sani. The Sidu bridge was created as part of China’s ever-expanding highway system, connecting two disparate parts of the country that were previously separated by difficult, mountainous terrain, and multiple rivers.
